STAT ATTACK: Kalinic in Chelsea’s sights!
Considered a one-and-done bust after a terrible few months with Blackburn Rovers, the Croatian has since risen to stardom, first with Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, and more recently in Serie A, where he is widely considered to be one of the steals of the season at 5.5 million (LINK).
Nine league goals, a preposterous assist (see below) and a desire to throw himself around no matter what have made the 27–year-old into one of the Italian league’s hottest properties… not to mention the archetypal modern striker.
News has emerged from the British media that Kalinic, who has a contract till 2019, could be lured away by Chelsea during the January transfer window. Beyond Jose Mourinho’s usual talk, it is more and more certain that Radamel Falcao will leave London, forcing the Pensioners to fill that gap as quickly as possible.
Though his price will have risen considerably, Chelsea were hardly happy to let the likes of Fernando Torres and Andriy Shevchenko slip away without a fight, paying a combined £70 million for both.
