    ‘Mertens wants to stay ’, Napoli Sporting Director says

    Belgium International Dries Mertens was recently linked with an Inter January move as the 28-year-old publicly complained for his lack of playing time under Maurizio Sarri.

    As previously reported, despite the former Empoli manager usually picks the likes of Lorenzo Insigne and José Maria Callejon to support Gonzalo Higuain up-front, the club have no intension to let the skilled Belgian winger joining another Serie A title rivals.
    According to the club’s Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli the player does not want to leave the Stadio San Paolotoo.

    “We want him to stay with us and he wants to remain at the club. We hope there won’t be any more problems in the future. A couple of meetings with the player’s entourage are already in my agenda but neither of the two sides want to part ways”, Giuntoli told Sky Sport Italia.

    Inter and Napoli are also chasing Cesena’s star Stefano Sensi who is also reported to be on Roma, Juve and Milan’s target.

    “He is a very skilled midfielder. At the moment we are examining the Italian market as well as the foreign and we’ll make our evaluations in the next few weeks.”
