Barcelona face transfer blow as Juventus defender wants contract extension

Barcelona are set to miss out on one of their transfer targets in January as Stephan Lichtsteiner wants to sign a new contract with the Serie A giants.

According to Spanish news outlet Sport, the ‘Swiss train’ wants to extend his expiring contract with Juventus. The 32-year-old right-back was not on good terms with Juventus at the beginning of the season as the player had not taken the signing of Dani Alves very well. The Brazilian has taken some game time off the former Lazio defender who, however, has never had an unprofessional behaviour during matches and trainings leaving Juventus’ executives impressed.

The Serie A giants can activate a clause to automatically extend Lichtsteiner’s contract for one more season and Sport reports that the player is now open to put pen to paper on a contract extension with the Old Lady despite being left out of the Champions League squad list.

Barcelona are still looking for an experienced right-back in January and the blaugrana shortlist is now reduced to just three names: Branislav Ivanovic, Glen Johnson and Dario Srna.
